Milestones

Dates are estimates counted from your dating start. Passed milestones are checked; the next one is highlighted.

    How this works

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period, not from conception. A due date is 280 days (40 weeks) after that day. Because that convention assumes a 28-day cycle with ovulation on day 14, a longer or shorter cycle shifts the dating start by the difference. Conception is assumed to happen about two weeks after the dating start, so a known conception date gives a due date 266 days later. If a provider gave you a due date, this page counts backward 280 days to find the dating start. An ultrasound that said "8 weeks 3 days" on a certain date lets the page count backward the same way.

ACOG advises that an ultrasound in the first trimester is the most accurate way to set or confirm a due date, and that a due date should be changed to the ultrasound estimate when the two disagree by more than the amounts below. A pregnancy without an ultrasound before 22 weeks is considered suboptimally dated. For IVF pregnancies, the due date is set from the embryo's age and transfer date (261 days after a day-5 transfer, 263 after a day-3 transfer).
